Rhulani Mokwena (born on 8 January 1987) is a South African football manager. He was the head coach of Orlando Pirates, a SA Premier League giant.

Family

The coach boasts of a strong ‘football background’, he was born into the family of Julius “KK” Sono, a football legend. His father was a football player at Orlando Pirates.

In the 1960s, his granddad, Eric Bhamuza Sono, also captained the Orlando Pirates. Eric died in a car accident.

His uncle, Jomo Sono, also is into football, he is the owner of Jomo Cosmos Football Club.

He obtained a Diploma in Sports Science, his mother had to encourage him to study law, she did not want him to pursue a coaching career.

He occupied the position of assistant coach to Milutin Sredojevic. In August 2019, Milutin resigned from the club and the same month Rhulani climbed to the position as the acting head coach.

He was at Mamelodi Sundowns, he occupied the position of assistant coach to Pitso Mosimane. 

Rhulani also served as assistant coach to Steve Komphela during his coaching days at Silvers Stars.
